Day 01
Arrival and welcome by a representative of LSR and transfer to Hotel in Negombo – “Little Rome”
Negombo……. Being one of the major tourist beach resorts of the island, this lively town is mainly inhabited by the fisher-folk. This is also one of the strongholds of the catholic community of Sri Lanka and quiet correctly considered as the “Little Rome”, located along the picturesque Negombo Lagoon, along which hundreds of fishing boats and catamarans could be seen most of the time. The Town is dotted with several churches, some dating from the earliest colonial times. Sightseeing in Negombo includes the remains of the Old Dutch Fortress from 1678, the Dutch Canal constructed for the transportation of Cinnamon, St. Mary’s Church and the Old Dutch Cemetery, and naturally, the Negombo Fish Market –more famously known as the “Lellama”.

Day 02
After a late breakfast at the Hotel undertake a City Tour of Negombo including a Fishing Village, Old Dutch Fortress from 1678 converted to a prison, the Hamilton Canal which was originally built by the Dutch for the transportation of Cinnamon; St. Mary’s Church, the Old Dutch Cemetery and naturally the Negombo Fish Market.

Day 03
After breakfast transfer for about 5 km by vehicle.
Then start biking for about an hour - the route will be through untarred roads and village level undeveloped roads passing through Tile/Brick Kilns, Coir Factories, Coconut/Rubber Estates, Pineapple Plantations, mainly on flat land and occasionally on hilly areas.
Proceed to Wilpattu
In the afternoon undertake a Jeep Safari of the Wilpattu National Park.
Wilpattu National Park --------With an extent of 131,667 hectares was by far the most popular spot for Leopards in the past before it was closed down because of the uncertain security situation which lasted for almost 30 years. It gets its name because of the numerous reservoirs that are found with in its territory. It is also home to a large number of ruins which are proof of human occupation of its area by the civil society back in the early periods of Sri Lankan History.The eastern boundary formed by the sea was thought to be the point where the originators of the sinhalese who arrived from India has touched base in Sri Lankan soil , is now marked by high sand dunes and broad sandy beaches

Day 04
After breakfast leave for Anuradhapura – “The first Capital - 5th Century BC”.
Anuradhapura … the most celebrated of Sri Lanka’s ancient ruined cities dating back to the 5th Century BC which formed the foundation for a magnificent civilisation spanning over a few centuries.According to the Mahavamsa - the great Sinhala Chronicle, this was a model of planning with precincts set aside for different vocations as well as for foreigners. There were separate cemeteries for high and low castes, hostels and hospitals and water supply was assured by the construction of reservoirs.Its greatest treasures are its dagabos constructed of small sun-dried bricks and are hemispherical in shape two of which have been identified by the UNESCO as World Heritage Sites.The reservoirs used for storage of water formed the basis of the hydraulic civilisation which later on spread to the entire island .
Visit the Sacred City Area
Visit many sites of the City of archaeological and historical interest including Isurumuniya - the first temple to be built in the island, Sri Maha Bodhi Tree- with an authenticated history of more than 2300 years which has been planted from a sapling from the original tree under which Buddha attained enlightenment , Ruwanveliseya - the largest stupa in the island , Jethawanaramaya and Abhayagiriya - which in their original form have been matching in size to the Great Pyramids in Giza being the tallest brick buildings in the world and have thus been declared as World Heritage Sites , Twin Ponds, Thuparamaya- the first Stupa to be built in Sri Lanka enshrining the left collor bone of the Buddha, the Samadhi Statue - meditating posture etc

Day 05
After breakfast Leave for Sigiriya /Dambulla
En route visit Mihintale - the cradle of Buddhism where the message of Buddha was received by the then King of Sri Lanka from Arahath Mahinda - the son of Emperor Asoka of India- climb up to the summit through the 1840 granite slab steps
Mihintale........a few kilometres from Anuradhapura is considered as the cradle of Buddhism where the message of Buddhism was received by the then King of Sri Lanka from Arahath Mahinda - the son of Emperor Asoka of India which was delivered after a lengthy conversation the Arahath had with the King to gauge the intelligence level of the monarch. The rock is dotted with shrines and rock dwellings.
Continue to visit the Avukana Standing Buddha Statue - 12m tall - a magnificent master piece of Sri Lanka Craftsmanship
Avukana..........facing the massive Kalawewa Reservoir constructed by King Dhatusena in close proximity to Vijithapura where the warrior King, Dutugemunu is supposed to have confronted King Elara and emerged victorius ending the long regime of Kings of south indian origin, is a master piece of stone sculpture standing 12’ tall , is considered as one of the best products that we have inherited.
In the afternoon visit Dambulla Cave Temple considered to be the largest painted caves in the world with more than 22,000 sq ft of painted surfaces with many paintings, sculptures, statues of Lord Buddha, his desciples, Kings, Gods etc.
Dambulla... a collection of five caves of different sizes full of paintings , sculptures, statues of Lord Buddha, his desciples, Kings , Gods etc. considered to be the largest painted caves in the world with more than 22,000 sq ft of painted surfaces declared a World Heritge Site.Initial authorship is attributed to King Valagambahu who took refuge here after being driven out of Anuradhapura by invading armies, although the works span over all periods since then to the late Kandy Period in the 18th Century

Day 06
After breakfast leave for Polonnaruwa- the Medieval Capital of Sri Lanka- 11th Century AD
Polonnaruwa.… the island’s Medieval Capital (11th – 13th Centuries AD) which rose to fame after the decline of Anuradhapura.. The city was fortified with three concentric walls, beautified with parks and gardens and sanctified by many shrines.A unique Irrigation complex watered the city as well as the surrounding plains helping in agriculture which made the island "the Grainery of the East" . The largest of the man made reservoirs, the huge Parakrama Samudra (the Sea of Parakrama), is larger in size than the Colombo Harbour. Polonnaruwa is home to two magnificent World Heritage Sites and numerous other sites of archaoelogicl and historical interest , some of which depict the influence that Hinduism had on the Buddhist Civilisation during that period of history.
In Polonnaruwa , visit the many sites of archaeological and historical interest in the Sacred City including the Grate Statue, Quadrangle, Royal Palace, Vatadage, Hatadage, Siva Devalaya, Gal Viharaya, Alahana Pirivena Complex, Kumara and Lotus Ponds, Thuparamaya , Rankoth Vehera, Pabalu Vehera , Thiwanka Image House , The Museum etc some of which depict the influence that Hinduism had on the Buddhist Civilisation during that period of history.
Hop in to a Wood Carving Factory to see the skills of Sri Lankan Craftsmen
In the afternoon undertake a Jeep Safari of the Minneriya National Park famous for its many large herds of wild elephants
Minneriya………It is situated around the reservoir of the same name in the south central area of the island. This park comprises of grasslands, thorny scrubs and many valuable species of trees. Large herds of elephants, species of deer, wild boar, water buffalo and jackals are some of the wild animals found, along with a variety of avifauna that abounds the park. Has become synonymous with the annual “Elephant Gathering” taking placein the later part of each year

Day 07
After breakfast climb the Rock Fortress of Sigiriya , a Royal Citadel for 20 years in the 5th Century AD built by King Kasyapa ,contemporary with the paintings of Ajantha and Ellora Caves in India , highlights being the Frescoes , Mirror Wall and the Lion's Paw, considered as the 8th Wonder of the modern world , thought to be equivalant to the "Alakamanda" - Cellestial Palace of God Kuvera.
Sigiriya… a Royal Citadel for 20 years in the 5th Century AD - stark and forbidding, haunted by an epic story of murder and betrayal is attibuted to King Kasyapa who found hiding here after killing his father more fruitful than meeting the wrath of the people who loved King Dhatusena much more before meeting his rival - Prince Mugalan who had fled to India seeking reninforcem,ents of his Army.This unique Rock Fortress or "castle in the sky" - a massive monolith of red stone that rises 600ft above ground , derived the name "Lion Rock" as the entrance to the climb to the summit is reached between the paws of a lion .

Day 08
After breakfast leave for Kandy – “The Hill Capital”
Kandy………….literally the "City on the Hills" so named as it was protected by the nature - water , rocks and jungles. The last capital of the Sri Lankan kings before falling to the British in 1815AD which is a World Heritage Site. The name Kandy conjures vision of splendour of magnificence. Many of the legends, traditions and folklore are still lovingly kept alive. The centre of attraction is the golden roofed Temple of the Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha .The Kandy Lake built by the last King Sri Wickramarajasinghe in 1806 holds a prominent view of the City.It is a City for arts and crafts as well culture and history
Walk in to a Spice Garden and take part in a conducted tour to get some knowledge about the growth and use of spices in the day to day life. In this garden you will find all Spices that grow in Sri Lanka including Cinnamon, Cardamom, Pepper, Nutmeg, Vanilla etc in the form of trees, plants, creepers. Visitors will be taken round by a competent person explaining each specie’ name , identity, growth, use in food/medicinal/curative values. All products are displayed in a shop from which those interested could by them although not mandatory to do so as this will mainly be a technical visit for educative purposes.
In a Batik Making Factory , see how beautifully the village girls turn out beautiful colored cloths for different purposes with colorful designs.
En route visit the famous Muthu Mariamman Hindu Temple in Matale

Day 09
After breakfast leave for a City Tour including the Upper Lake Drive - a place where one could have a bird's eye view of the city below, the Royal Botanical Gardens - one of the best of its kind in Asia with more than 5000 species of different varieties of flora which incidentally was the Headquarters of Lord Louise Mountbatten - the Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces during the 2nd World War, a Gem Museum - to see how the valuable gems that you see on a shop shelf are turned out from a raw stone with the back ground history.
In the evening watch a Cultural Performance by traditional Kandyan Dancers and Drummers including devotional"Fire Walking" and walk across in the star lit night to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic of Buddha - by far the most important place of worship for Buddhists worldover.

Day 10
After breakfast leave for Nuwara Eliya - "Little England" through the Ramboda Pass surrounded by "Green Carpets"- hills covered with Tea and cascading Water Falls amidst breathtakingly beautiful landscapes.
Nuwara Eliya… nestled in a wooded basin at the foot of Mount Pidurutalagala Sri Lanka’s highest peak, this region at 6,183ft above sea-level has a cool, crisp climate unknown elsewhere in Sri Lanka. A serene retreat from the hustle and bustle of Colombo, the town seems like a piece of the English Lake District. Unusual plants, birds and animals thrive here besides natural feature like waterfalls and caves. Tea, the glistening green leaves of this lovely shrub, along with neat rows of green, cloak ridges and valleys providing a lasting impression of Sri Lanka’s Hill Country. The golf course – one of the most finest and picturesque in Asia – the serene Anglican Church of the Holy Trinity, beautiful parks and well kept lawns and hedges give the place an air of nostalgia.
En route start hiking at Pussellawa though the breathtakingly beautiful landscapes through the Tea Plantations for about 2 – 3 hours.
Visit a Tea Factory and a Plantation to witness the manufacturing process of world famous"Ceylon Tea" and to taste a pure unblended cup of factory fresh tea before being sent to the Tea Auctions in Colombo leading to Export.
Evening is free for walks /tour around the city - the important places being the Victoria Park, Gregory Lake, Golf Course,Market etc.-20km

Day 11
After breakfast leave for the Horton Plains – a part of newly declared World Heritage Site of Central Highlands of Sri Lanka, which is the island’s most isolated plateau situated 1860 meters above sea level
Horton Plains… The only National Park situated in the Hill Country is Sri Lanka’s highest and most isolated plateau at an elevation of more than 2000 metres and is located in the District of Nuwara Eliya. This 3,162- hectare National Park is a natural playground without rival in Sri Lanka and . is a watershed of tremendous importance containing the second and third highest mountains in Sri Lanka with in its precincts.It’s widely spread Patna grass-covered plains are the haunt of many species of flora and fauna among which are found leopards, sambhur, deer, Slender Lories, purple monkeys, eagles and some 247 species of butterflies, rare orchids, rhododrendon trees and exotic mosses. Bridle paths through the plains lead to the precipice known as World’s End, a sheer drop of 1,050 meters and the much famous Baker’s Falls.
Start hiking to visit the World's End - a sheer precipice of more than 1050 metres , lucky if you can have a clear vision and proceed to visit the Baker’s Falls Water Falls , named after the person who discovered it.

In the process you will pass by the station at the highest Elevation in Sri Lanka – Pattipola – 1800 metr
It is interesting to note that between Ohiya and Idalgashinna in a distance of 8.5km there are 14 tunnels including the longest in the island of 181 meters.

Elephant Transit Home …………..Located just outside the Uda Walawe National Park in the Southwestern Part of Sri Lanka , opened its doors to baby elephants in need in 1995.The babies are well looked after fed and groomed to integrate back into a jungle environment, after a stay of approximately four years .This has turned out to be a successful conservation exercise where interested elephant conservation enthusiasts can become foster parents for these baby pachederms until they are weaned away from milk and learn to eat other types of food for a reasonable fee.

Yala National Park …..… having an added bonus of a scenic ocean frontage, the terrain is varied — flat plains alternating with rocky out-crops. The vegetation ranges from open parkland to dense jungle creating contrasting eco systems and habitats. This has resulted in producing a high bio-diversity among the plant and animal-life at YALA. With a bit of luck one could sight the big four: Elephant, Leopard, Bear and Buffalo. In addition, other mammals such as
sambhur, spotted deer, jackal, mongoose and several species of monkeys could be sighted very frequently. The bird life at YALA is also very vivid and rich in numbers, especially during the months November to April when thousands of migratory birds arrive in Sri Lanka.

Visit the Galle Dutch Fortress - a World Heritage Site
Visit a Mask Museum , a Turtle Hatchery and the Moonstone Mines .
