Among them VESAK FESTIVAL which falls with the Full Moon Day in the Month of May stand out as unique since the entire country is illuminated with different types of decorations. Vesak symbolizes the birth of Prince Siddartha , enlightenment attained to become a Buddha and the passing away called Parinirvana.
Day 01 – May 28th
Arrival and welcome by a representative of Lanka Sportreizen and transfer to Hotel in Negombo – Little Rome Negombo… Being one of the major tourist beach resorts of the island, this lively town is mainly inhabited by the fisher-folk. This is also one of the strongholds of the catholic community of Sri Lanka and quiet correctly considered as the “Little Rome”, located along the picturesque Negombo Lagoon, along which hundreds of fishing boats and catamarans could be seen most of the time. The Town is dotted with several churches, some dating from the earliest colonial times. Sightseeing in Negombo includes the remains of the Old Dutch Fortress from 1678, the Dutch Canal constructed for the transportation of Cinnamon, St. Mary’s Church and the Old Dutch Cemetery, and naturally, the Negombo Fish Market –more famously known as the “Lellama”. Day 02 – May 29th
After breakfast at the Hotel leave for Colombo – Commercial Capital Colombo .... is a fascinating city, not only for its comfortable blend of East and West, but also for its casy mixture of the past and the present .It is the Commercial Capital of the country, and is only 35 km south of the country's only International Airport. Many attractions , opportunities for shopping , availability of tasting a multitude of cuisine etc makes it an interesting city Undertake a City Tour of Colombo including a Buddhist Temple, Dutch Wolvendhal Church, a Hindu Temple, Town Hall, BMICH (Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall) , Cinnamon Gardens - Prime residential area, the Nelum Pokuna – the newly opened Performing Arts Theatre , the recently developed New Parliament Area etc. In the process you will witness the preparations that are being made for the festival which will be at different stages in the city and its environs. Day 03 – May 30th
After breakfast at the Hotel leave for a tour of the city – you will be able to witness different activities, Visit Temples to see the various religious activities that are being conducted with in the premises by white clad devotees In the outside world you will see final touches being given to the decorations by people of all ages very enthusiastically which will become live with the evening approaching. You will also note something very special –DANSALA – preparations by people at various locations to offer different types of food , drinks and various other delicacies to all passers by ,absolutely free. You may enjoy any of these and people would love to see you as a foreigner patronising their efforts. With the sunset all decorations – massive structures called Pandals, various types of Vesak Lanterns of different designs, Chanting activities etc etc will be made active and illuminated. People from all over the country will start moving into cities to witness all these activities We are confident that you can forgo both your lunch and dinner today.

After breakfast at the Hotel leave for a tour of the city Continue with same type of activities as the previous day in different locations You could include and cover all surrounding areas during these three days and have a vey unique experience
