Explore the maze-like alleys and haggle with shopkeepers for unique souvenirs. Be prepared for a sensory overload with the array of colors, scents, and sounds.

  • A 2-hour cooking class in Istanbul offers an immersive and educational culinary experience that allows participants to explore the rich and diverse world of Turkish cuisine. During this hands-on local cooking session, participants typically engage in the following activities:

Guided Instruction: An experienced and knowledgeable local chef or instructor provides step-by-step guidance throughout the class. They introduce participants to the essential ingredients, techniques, and traditions of Turkish cooking.

Menu Selection: Participants often have the opportunity to choose from a set menu or focus on specific dishes, such as classic Turkish kebabs, mezes (appetizers), traditional pastries, or even regional specialties unique to Istanbul.

Preparation: The class typically involves the preparation of various ingredients, including chopping, marinating, and seasoning. This allows participants to learn the finer details of flavor combinations and cooking methods used in Turkish cuisine.

Cooking Techniques: Participants are taught traditional cooking methods such as grilling, baking, and sautéing, as well as the proper use of Turkish spices and herbs that contribute to the distinctive flavors of the cuisine.

Cultural Insights: In addition to the practical cooking aspect, instructors often share cultural insights about the significance of the dishes being prepared, the history of Turkish cuisine, and the importance of food in Turkish culture.

Tasting and Enjoyment: The highlight of the class is, of course, savoring the delicious dishes that participants have prepared. This communal meal provides an opportunity for participants to enjoy the fruits of their labor and engage in conversations with fellow classmates.

Recipe and Skills Takeaway: Participants usually receive a set of recipes and cooking tips to take home, enabling them to recreate the dishes in their own kitchens. These recipes serve as a memento of the culinary journey and a way to share Turkish flavors with friends and family.

Overall, a 2-hour authentic home style cooking session in Istanbul offers a condensed yet enriching experience that allows both beginners and seasoned cooks to connect with the local culture, savor traditional flavors, and gain practical skills in preparing authentic Turkish dishes. It's a delightful and memorable way to engage with the city's vibrant food scene while learning the art of Turkish cooking.
