Celebrating Culture: A Namibian Festival Experience
The Windhoek Karneval (WIKA) is an annual 10-day carnival held in Windhoek, Namibia's capital, blending German carnival traditions with Namibian culture in a vibrant celebration of music, dance, costumes, parades, balls and community spirit. Founded in 1952 by German immigrants, WIKA has grown into one of Windhoek's key cultural highlights, featuring events like the opening Prinzenball, colourful street processions along Independence Avenue, international evenings, a children's carnival and the popular WIKA beer festival, all designed to foster unity and celebrate cultural diversity. This year it takes place from 09 to 19 April 2026 and after the celebrations, it's the perfect time to explore Namibia for yourself.
