DAY 2: The Grand Expedition
This morning, meet your private driver-guide and continue to Reykjavik's domestic airport, where your personal pilots stand ready to embark on an unparalleled aerial journey. Experience Iceland's majesty from the skies, making exclusive landings in secluded locales reserved for the privileged few.
From the air, the volcanic black sand beaches of South Iceland seem to stretch out forever. This is where Iceland hugs the Atlantic Ocean, a place where sediment carrying glacial rivers battle the might and erosion of the North Atlantic. In the distance, looms the famous Eyjafjallajökull volcano, with its gleaming glacier cap, canyons and tumbling waterfalls. Entering Vatnajökull National Park from the air is a truly unique sight. Home to the largest ice cap in Europe by volume, this massive wall of white has over 30 outlet glaciers flowing and crashing down from its giant ice cap. Our first stop is at the base of one of them, where we take a closer look at one of the natural wonders of Iceland.
Upon touchdown, we'll spend 1 to 1.5 hours exploring Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, marveling at luminous bright blue icebergs, some of which are over 1000 years old. You might even catch a glimpse of Iceland's playful seals.
At one of the lagoons, you'll also embark on a private boat tour. This adventure will allow you to connect with Icelandic nature in a way you've never experienced before.
Back in the air, we make one final pass over the lagoon and head west, flying past the highest peak in Iceland and over the many glacial tongues of the Vatnajökull Glacier. As these rivers of ice fade into pencil-thin lines of white in the helicopter's wake, we enter the remote Fjallabak region, also known as the Icelandic highlands. This area represents the rugged, unpopulated mountainous heart of the island, featuring secluded mountain lakes, braided rivers, valleys shaped by glaciers, and towering mountains that remain hidden treasures, known to only a select few due to their remoteness.
We'll explore the rhyolite mountains of Landmannalaugar and Hrafntinnusker by air and land, before returning to Reykjavik via Mt. Hekla, one of Iceland's most active volcanoes.
Note: We'll make three landings, including one at the Glacier Lagoon. The other locations, often Fimmvörðuháls near Eyjafjallajökull and Hrafntinnusker, depend on the weather.
A packed lunch is included, with our pilot selecting a scenic picnic spot.

Embark on a journey to the iconic Golden Circle. Witness the majesty of the Gullfoss Waterfall, an opulent cascade offering intimate, breathtaking vistas. Venture into the Geysir geothermal domain, a realm of steaming springs, eruptive geysers, and simmering mud pools. While the grand Geysir remains reserved, its counterpart, Strokkur, offers a spectacular performance, jetting water skywards every few moments.
In the afternoon, continue to the majestic Bláfjall mountain. Here, an exciting expedition awaits: a descent into the heart of the ancient Þríhnúkagígur volcano, a wonder untouched by time.
Dormant for over 4,000 years, Þríhnúkagígur remains a testament to nature's artistry. Its cavernous chamber, painted in rich hues, boasts a scale that eclipses imagination. To illustrate its grandeur, envision a space encompassing three grand basketball courts or housing the entirety of the Statue of Liberty.
