There are various documents to produce to get married in Italy whether it is a civil, a religious or a symbolic Wedding and there are certain documents and approvals which must be obtained before the wedding.

Civil Wedding
Civil Wedding Ceremonies in Italy can only be celebrated in a Town Hall or a property approved by the Italian government. The ceremony is performed in Italian by the Mayor or by a civil officer and translated into English by an interpreter. Outdoor Civil Wedding Ceremonies can only be performed in certain Italian locations approved by the local authorities. The ceremony usually last for approximately 20 to 30 minutes. There is a fee to pay to the town halls for conducting a civil wedding which varies from one town hall to another and it also takes into consideration the couple’s nationality, the day of the week you are getting marries, the time of the ceremony etc. In order for your Italian Wedding to be legally recognized in your home country, some paperwork will be required which varies based on your nationality and personal circumstances. The wedding certificate issued to you after the ceremony is legally recognized internationally and it is issued in five languages.
Symbolic Wedding
Weddings consist of a blessing or a renewal of vows and are suggested for couples who only wish to exchange their personal and intimate wows and have no time to produce the paperwork required for the legalization of the wedding. This type of wedding is no legally binding and couples have the freedom to personalize the Ceremony! You can have a Symbolic Ceremony in Italy even if you decide to legalize your union in your own Country. The Ceremony can be performed by an English speaking celebrant or even a member of your family. It is a personalized ceremony tailored to the couple’s taste and desire. Symbolic Wedding can take place anywhere in Italy without limitations or restrictions; on the beach, on a terrace overlooking the sea, in a private Villa, in a gondola, in a Historical Palace, in a castle etc.
Religious wedding ceremony in Italy
The religious Ceremony is a solemn rite bless the union in front of God.
Catholic weddings in Italy are only possible in Catholic Churches or Chapels as they need to take place in consecrated grounds and can only be celebrated when one of the parties is of catholic religion. It is not possible to have a catholic wedding outside a church or a chapel. In the case of one of the parties being divorced after a previous Catholic Wedding, the Catholic Church will NOT allow you to remarry in church unless you have an annulment of your previous marriage recognized by the Catholic Authorities. Catholic Weddings in Italy can also be legally binding if the legal paperwork are also provided for the civil side.
Protestant weddings can take place in a protestant church or a wide range of private venues for example villas, castles, gardens, terraces, hotels, outdoors or indoors etc. Protestant weddings in Italy can be either a religious blessing or we can provide a Minister or Pastor who will perform a civil and protestant ceremony simultaneously. In this last case the Minister or Pastor will perform, as a Public Magistrate, a Protestant ceremony with civil validity according to the Italian Law which is recognized worldwide. One of the parties, (not necessarily both), needs to be baptized Christian. The paperwork requirement for the civil side varies according to the nationality of Bride and Groom and we can advise of all necessary paperwork. For a Protestant Wedding without the civil validity, the Minister/Pastor will require a valid and recent civil marriage certificate prior the ceremony. Ceremonies for marriage anniversaries or renewal of wedding vows can also be also organized. The Pastor normally asks to "meet" the couple either by e-mail or by phone before the Wedding.
Jewish weddings. We can assist with the arrangement of different types of Jewish weddings and suggest the right location whether you are Orthodox, Reform, Conservative or Re-constructionist. There are several different locations to choose from depending on the type of rabbi who will be officiating the ceremony. In order to have a Reform Jewish wedding in Italy you can bring your own rabbi from home. The wedding would take place in a private location, such as a private palazzo, villa or other location of your choice. This type of ceremony would be religious only and not legally binding.
Muslin weddings can take place in a private location with the Imam or Sheikh attending the ceremony. If you wish to get married in a mosque in Italy please note that it is more difficult and the rules are quite strict so please bear this in mind if you wish to get married in a mosque. This type of ceremony is only possible in certain districts in Italy and full details will be provided to the couples when requested.
