DAY01: Arrival in Darien. End of the Inter-American Highway. Welcome to Darien.
Leaving Panama City early in the morning, we will make several stops along the highway, until we reach the National Border Service (SENAFRONT) checkpoint in Agua Fría. After a short review, we will continue traveling along the Pan-American highway, until finally reaching Yaviza, (end of the Inter-American highway from Alaska), once in Yaviza we have to register with the ANAM (National Environmental Authority), to enter the Darién National Park and once again at the SENAFRONT in Yaviza. These are simple, routine visitor registration checks.
Then, we are ready to take a canoe (traditional water transport), or a local boat that will take us to El Real de Santa María, (approximate time of 1 hour), upon reaching El Real we take a 4x4 car (used by the residents), to address the indigenous community of Pijibasal. In Pijibasal we will spend the first night, with the accommodation and food conditions that the community will provide us. It is possible that by this time from here we begin to sleep in our hammocks.
DAY02: Excursion day. Waterfall day.
In the early hours of the morning, we will start the walk from the community of Pijibasal, towards the Darién National Park, we will first pass through the Rancho Frío station, to inform the park rangers of our presence in the protected area; from where we will continue our journey to the path to the waterfall, in the company of local guides. Travel time: it will depend on the conditions and the pace of the walk but it is estimated at 1 to 1.5 hours. The walk will be to the Rancho Frío station where once we settle in, and prepare something to eat, we will visit the waterfall of the Perresenico River, where we will enjoy its crystalline waters.
In the afternoon, after dinner, we will get ready to sleep in hammocks within the facilities of the Rancho Frío station.
DAY04: Reach the mountain. Hiking mountain
After breakfast, we will hike to climb Cerro Pirre, at an average height of 1200 meters above sea level, and from this point we will go down to Rancho Plástico station, where we will camp tonight, if possible; Otherwise, we will walk along the path until our physical conditions allow it, and after some point after having enjoyed the jungle we will return along the same path to the Rancho Frío Station.
We will rest at the station in our hammocks.
DAY04:: Saying goodbye and See you soon
After breakfast, we will leave as early as possible to return to the entrance of Darién National Park, or to the community of Pijibasal where ground transportation will wait for us that will bring us back to El Real, and then from there we will take the canoe that will take us from El Real to Yaviza and then report to the SENAFRONT checkpoints, we will go to Panama City.
